Document Extraction Failed

Something went wrong during processing. Here's how to diagnose and fix it.

Common causes of extraction failure

A failed extraction means ParseMe's pipeline encountered an unrecoverable error. Most common causes:

  • Password-protected or encrypted PDF — ParseMe cannot read locked files
  • Corrupted file — the file is damaged and cannot be decoded
  • Unsupported file type — only PDF, PNG, JPEG, WEBP, TIFF, and forwarded email formats are supported
  • File exceeds your plan's maximum file size
  • Monthly page quota reached mid-extraction
  • Scanned document with unusable image quality (very low resolution)

How to fix a failed extraction

Check the error message shown below the Failed badge — it usually pinpoints the exact problem. Common fixes:

  • Remove the password from the PDF using Adobe Acrobat or an online PDF unlocker, then re-upload
  • Convert the file to PDF/A format using LibreOffice or Smallpdf
  • Upgrade your plan or wait for the monthly quota reset
  • Scan the document at a higher resolution (300 DPI or better)

Do failed extractions count against my quota?

No — pages that fail to extract are not billed. Your page quota is only reduced when an extraction reaches Completed status.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Can I retry a failed extraction?

Yes — fix the underlying issue first, then upload the file again.

Will I be charged for failed extractions?

No. Only completed extractions consume pages from your monthly quota.

My PDF looks fine but keeps failing — why?

Some PDFs appear normal but have internal corruption or non-standard encoding. Try converting to PDF/A format and re-uploading.
